Portretten (analoog)
“De afgelopen jaren heb ik gemerkt dat ik zowel in mijn beeldend werk als in mijn muziek het liefst portretten maak. Een portret en haar verhaal dat is wat mij het meest interesseert. Dit verklaard ook mijn voorliefde voor folk muziek, het vertellen van verhalen over “gewone” mensen”.
This Room (grafiek & muziek 2011)
Tijdens het schrijven en opnemen van deze plaat heb ik tien beeldend kunstenaars gevraagd om mijn liedjes te verbeelden. Zodat ik in deze kamer, ingepakt in beton, naar buiten kan kijken en vanuit deze grijze straten naar binnen. Met deze kunstwerken en drie fantastische muzikanten heb zijn wij het land ingetrokken. Wat resulteerde in een expositie met muziek en zeer variërend beeldend werk. De LP ‘This room & the grey streets’ (vormgeving: Stijn Dirkx) is een verzameling muziek, tekst en beelden en dient als naslagwerk van de expositie-tour.
A song to Dylan (installatie 2010)
Displays a projection of an artist that sings a silent song to the streets. A song to the people he meets, who don’t listen anymore. “But lovers & liars are both much the same. We are all playing this ridiculous game”. These days life runs two steps ahead of us and we all just try to keep up. This projection of a busker tries to find his place in this world with a constant thought, that he just wants to sing. Since 2008, the switch project is a continuing investigation into place, locating art in public space in a contextually focused way. International film and video artworks are back projected for one week onto the windows of shops and other spaces throughout the town. switch locates itself outside of the big city and applies itself to the rhythm of smaller places. The events initiate conversations between artists and audiences, artworks and their sites. Now in its 5th year, switch is an artist-led project funded & supported by the North Tipperary Arts Office.
My Friend The Storm (mixed media 2009)
Een grafiek project, een installatie, een lied en gelimiteerde uitgave op CD. Een project over een goede vriend die op latere leeftijd werd gediagnostiseerd met PDD-NOS (een autistische spectrum stoornis). PDD- NOS: Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Deze diagnose krijg je als je niet alle kenmerken van autisme hebt, maar wel een aantal. Oftewel hij kreeg het label AUTIST maar niemand wist wat dit nou eigelijk betekende. Martijn besloot om hierover een lied te schrijven en een installatie te maken.
Het lied beschrijft de storm in zijn hoofd en als je in de installatie plaats nam ervaarde je de verschillende labels die je opgespeld krijgt als je autist bent.Deze storm en onze fascinatie met het labelen van mensen die anders zijn heb ik ook proberen te vangen in grafiek.
